It’s the first question almost everyone asks me, and it’s a fair one. Headshot pricing in Calgary is all over the map, and the number on a website doesn’t always tell you what you actually walk away with.
Here’s how I price my sessions, and what you should look for no matter who you book.
What a headshot costs with me
A studio session is $199. That includes:
- a pre session consultation, so we plan the look before you arrive
- any number of outfits
- reviewing the images together, live on a laptop, during the session
- one finished, retouched headshot
- web ready and high resolution versions of that headshot
- multiple crops, so it works on LinkedIn, your website and print
Additional headshots are $95 each. On location sessions start at $299, and GST is added to all prices.
For teams, conference booths and events, pricing depends on headcount and timing, so I quote those individually. Event coverage is $300 for the first hour and $225 for each additional hour.
What should be included in the price
When you compare photographers, look past the headline number and ask these questions:
- Is retouching included? Some prices cover the shoot only, and retouching is extra per image.
- How many outfits or looks? A single look limits where you can use the photo.
- Do you see the photos during the shoot? If not, you’re hoping for the best and finding out a week later.
- What files do you get? You want web ready files for online use and high resolution files for print.
- How fast is delivery? Mine is two business days or less. If your new role starts Monday, that matters.
Why the cheapest option can cost more
A headshot you don’t like is money spent on a photo you’ll never use. Then you book again. The real value is a session where someone actually directs you, because most people don’t know what to do with their face in front of a camera, and that’s completely normal.
That direction is the part I’ve trained for, and it’s why clients who swear they aren’t photogenic leave with a headshot they love.
